Ministry Exercise 2, 3, 4 and 5 - Prayer Ministry Session
Some people will be in the intercessors group, some leading the team, some observing in the ministry team, and some receiving prayer ministry. In future ministry sessions you will be rotated so that everyone receives ministry and is part of an intercession team, and a ministry team.
Observers in the Ministry Session
Those observing in the ministry session will remain unobtrusive while the ministry leaders pray for the person selected for ministry.
Do not make suggestions, distracting movements or noises. Observe what happens, and remember questions and comments for later during the debriefing at the end of the session. You will have opportunity then to share your insights or revelations.
You may contribute to the ministry if asked to do something by the leader, but do not go beyond what they ask you to do.
Guidelines for the Intercessors Group
Each intercessors' group will be asked to pray for someone receiving ministry. For the purposes of this exercise you will know the gender of the person but not their name.
Initially the Intercessors' Group are there to pray for the Ministry team and person receiving prayer. Such prayer facilitates the ministry and assists the Ministry team in their role. The Lord will also give words of encouragement which can be recorded on the sheet.
One person will be appointed to lead the group. They will guide the group.
Appoint a Scribe, someone with clear handwriting who is able to quickly and accurately record exactly what is being shared.
Invite the Holy Spirit to be present and lead the whole session. Allow time for each person to quietly confess any sin the Holy Spirit reveals. Claim the cleansing of the blood of Jesus and its protection for each person and their families. Give time to silently name the family members.
Pray for the Ministry Team leader and observers to be open and sensitive to the Holy Spirit's leading and filled with love as they minister. Pray that the gifts of the Holy Spirit will be given as needed.
Pray that the Lord will bless the person for whom you are praying. Pray they will be open to the Lord and His healing. Pray that any powers of darkness which could hinder this will be bound. The Lord may reveal specific demonic spirits which need to be addressed.
Take time to wait silently on the Lord after these opening prayers. Do not be concerned or strive to receive something. The Holy Spirit works in many different ways and gives different gifts. At different times different people in the group will be used. Be willing to share what you have even if you feel very unsure. This is a safe learning environment and what is shared will be checked and prayed into. Words of Scripture; pictures; the verse of a song; a word or phrase; a feeling or idea; a pain or sensation in the physical body; a tongue with its interpretation are the more common ways you may hear from the Lord. Do not hold back because you don't understand or think it doesn't fit.
If something negative is revealed, share and wait for confirmation from another in the group. Ask for clarity and confirmation. If it is not confirmed, leave it with the Lord. If it is confirmed pray into the situation, asking the Lord to bring about the opposite, eg. If it is fear, pray for perfect love to cast out that fear. Pray with the opposite spirit, pray truth to counteract lies, faith where there is doubt, etc.
There may be a real heaviness and pressure at times in the group. Come with praise and spiritual warfare until this lifts. Declare the truth that brings freedom, using the Word of God as the Lord gives scriptures. We have authority in the name of Jesus against all interfering spirits.
Learn to function as a team, agreeing together in prayer. Be sensitive to each others' way of praying.
The Scribe records on the sheet all encouraging words, pictures, verses etc. as they are received. Be as accurate as possible, especially with references and pictures. Do not group types together. The sheet often mirrors the progress of the ministry and this itself is an encouragement. If there have been negative things as in point 9 and the Lord has given things to pray or claim which countered this, these may be recorded. Do not record negative things on the form.
Occasionally the Intercessors' Group Leader may feel that something has been revealed which is negative but should be passed on to the Ministry Team Leader. This can be recorded on a separate piece of paper, folded over, and given to Leader at the same time as the sheet is handed in.
Do not attempt to interpret what the Lord gives. Ask the Lord to give scripture verses. In searching concordances we can move away from being led by the Spirit. We are seeking to record what the Lord gives for each person, not just provide a list of 'nice' references. Only use a concordance if you have a definite verse but can't remember its address.
After forty-five minutes (in this exercise) the sheet is due to be handed to the Ministry Team Leader. Before doing this, spend time waiting quietly before the Lord to check that everything He wants has been recorded. The Intercessors' Group Leader should check through the sheet to make sure it records faithfully what the Lord has given.
The Scribe then takes the sheet and delivers it to the ministry room as appropriate, in order not to interrupt the ministry.
No notes of what is received are to be kept. You can trust the Holy Spirit to remind you of what you received so that it can be recorded on the sheet.
Spend some time praying for the reception of those words on the sheet which are from the Lord as it is shared. Do this until the Ministry Leader comes to tell you they are finished, or until the Holy Spirit says to stop. Then close the session with thanks to the Lord. Pray that He will take everything from the minds of those involved in both ministry and intercession. Unless the person prayed for specifically expresses a desire to talk about the intercession time there should be no discussion with them about the ministry.
The Ministry Team Leader may give general feedback as encouragement. 'Who got what' is not to be revealed unless the person asks or there is a need for clarification with the Ministry or Course Leader. Confidentiality should always be practised in all prayer ministry.
At the end of the prayer time give back to the Lord all that he has given for the person and ask him to release you from this time and from each other. Close the session with thanks to the Lord.
Keep confidential anything that happened during this time.
We will give time for debriefing.
